UpDown's Official $5,000 Yearly Performance Contest. All members of the site on or before the June 30 are automatically entered. To earn money, you must:

  • Perform better than the S&P 500 over the contest period
  • Have at least one stock in your portfolio during the contest period
  • Log into your portfolio once during the last month before the end of the contest
  • Have an account with a verified e-mail address

Contest Rules

Awards:

  • Compete to win $5,000 in prizes for the highest portfolio returns.
  • Performance is calculated as your relative return over the period of the contest, or when you joined UpDown.com, whichever is first.

Timeline:

  • The first day of trading will be January 14, 2009.
  • Contest will end as of market close on December 31, 2009.
  • You are automatically enrolled!

Awards Breakdown:

  • 1st Place: $1,000
  • 2nd Place: $500
  • 3rd Place: $250
  • 4 - 10 place winners: $100
  • 11 - 100 place winners: $10
  • 101 - 200 place winners: $1
  • 201 - 5,000 place winners: $0.50
  • 1,001 - 5,000 place winners: $0.10
  • All others who beat the S&P 500: $0.01
  • Total Earnings: $5,000
