Oct. 14, 2009 (PR Newswire) -- SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- A10 Networks(TM), the technology leader in Application Delivery Controllers (ADCs), today announced it is first to market with a unique Domain Name System (DNS) Application Firewall feature set, designed in partnership with leading Internet service providers (ISPs) and carriers. The feature is available with new AX Series ADC purchases, and as a free upgrade to existing AX Series platforms. The DNS Application Firewall feature solves DNS issues such as increased DNS infrastructure pressure, eliminates Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks on DNS infrastructure, and stops malicious or invalid traffic hitting DNS infrastructure. The feature set innovates and builds upon the traditional role of server load balancers, providing high availability and server selection with high performance DNS security to a DNS infrastructure.
DNS is vital for the vast majority of web-based transactions. Compromised DNS results can destroy brand credibility and DNS outages can reduce revenues. The AX Series can be placed in front of existing DNS servers to reduce server load by up to 70 percent by allowing only legitimate DNS traffic to pass through. The new DNS Application Firewall feature within AX Series also increases security for backend servers by quarantining malicious traffic for inspection and guaranteeing uptime regardless of DDoS attacks.
The AX Series DNS Application Firewall feature has the following technology components:
-- Traffic Validation: Provides application level DNS inspection
-- Dynamic Traffic Flow Regulation: Includes high-performance surge
protection and source-based IP rate/connection limiting
-- Security: Incorporates Access Control Lists (ACLs), a malicious traffic
redirection option and hardware-based DDoS protection on select models
with 0% CPU utilization
-- High-performance: Actual measurements show the ability to deliver up to
18 million DNS requests per second and SYN flood protection for up to 50
million connections
"Outages of key DNS services, such as recent high-profile DNS amplification attacks, can damage reputations and consumer confidence and require immediate attention and protection," said Lee Chen, founder and CEO of A10 Networks. "We listened to the needs of service providers and carriers and designed the industry's first DNS Application Firewall feature set within our high-performance AX Series to ensure that the entire class of DNS attacks can be mitigated, to safeguard our customers' business."
Availability
The DNS Application Firewall is available immediately in the AX Series 2.4 firmware, shipping today.
