Oct. 19, 2009 (Business Wire) -- The Advanced Fiber Connectivity and Switching Forum (AFCS Forum) announced today that it will host a workshop at the SUPERCOMM 2009 Conference & Exposition, held October 21-23 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Ill.
Organized by Glenn Wellbrock, Director of Backbone Network Design at Verizon, and Dave Rapp, Program Manager at ADC, the workshop will discuss the benefits of physical layer optical switching technology for network operators. The workshop will be held in Room W183a on Thursday, October 22, from 1:20 to 2:05 p.m. (CDT) as part of the larger SUPERCOMM workshop series at the Convention Center.
Entitled “Optical Switching: New Solutions for Growing Bandwidth Demands,” the workshop will address how growing bandwidth requirements generated by triple and quadruple-play services are rapidly exhausting the capabilities of copper infrastructures. This session will discuss the future of physical layer network optical switching and how new applications can add network flexibility, improve infrastructure management, lower current and future costs, and help future-proof the network.
