Arria II GX Device Wins Embedded System Editor's Choice Award for Best FPGA Product

Oct. 23, 2009 (Business Wire) -- Altera Corporation (NASDAQ:ALTR) today announced that its Arria® II GX FPGA was awarded the Best FPGA Product of the Year by China’s Electronic Engineering & Product World (EEPW) Magazine. The Embedded System Editor’s Choice Award was presented during the Electronic Forum held at China’s Tsinghua University in Beijing.

The award is based on a combination of a judging committee made up of EEPW's editorial team and experts and engineers from industry associations, and online votes, weighted 49 percent and 51 percent respectively. The Arria II GX FPGA was unanimously recommended by the judging committee and received a remarkably high number of public votes over competing products on the EEPW website.

“With its unique combination of low cost and low power, the Arria II GX device is an ideal FPGA solution for higher volume, transceiver-based applications requiring up to 3.75 Gbps,” said Wang Ying, chief editor of EEPW. “Altera’s Arria II GX FPGA satisfies both the increasing demand for information across varied markets and the system designers' need for higher bandwidth at lower cost and lower power. It is well deserving of this award.”

Arria II GX FPGAs are the perfect devices for 3-Gbps transceiver applications requiring low-cost FPGAs with high-end capabilities. They offer 25 percent higher performance, up to 50 percent lower price and up to 50 percent lower power, compared to competitive high-end FPGAs. Arria II GX FPGAs are targeted for applications using mainstream protocols such as PCI Express® (PCIe®), Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) and Serial RapidIO (sRIO). The devices also support targeted protocols such as CPRI, GPON, XAUI and triple-speed SDI. Arria II GX FPGAs have up to 16 3.75-Gbps transceivers, 256K logic elements (LEs) and 8.5 Mbits of internal RAM.

“We’re honored to receive this award from EEPW. It shows that the Arria II GX FPGA has been widely recognized by both the engineering community as well as the media,” said Erhaan Shaikh, regional vice president and managing director, Asia Pacific, Altera Corporation. “Arria II GX FPGAs enable volume applications requiring flexibility and higher processing capabilities while allowing our customers to get to market quickly at an affordable price.”
