The price of gold has been on a tear lately, propelled by a falling dollar and higher oil prices(Both are signals of inflation)
Traditionaly Gold has always been a hedge against rising prices, and with more rate cuts on the way gold will continue to go higher -- (which is already trading at a 27-year high). With global production declines and demand rising.Gold companies are discovering few new deposits,no region has benefited more than Latin America, home to some of the most prodigious metal and mineral riches on the planet. Mining companies' stock down there has surged. But you can still get in on this boom. You have to assume that metal prices will continue to escalate, the doller remaining weak, or production must be strong to meet undiminished appetites. The forces at work to fuel this:depletion of mines in places like the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia; and stricter environmental reviews in developed nations, lengthening the time and cost of getting new operations under way.
Compania de Minas Buenaventura(BVN) is the largest publicly-traded precious metals company in Peru. In addition to being a major holder of mineral rights in Peru, the company operates three mines in the country, and has controlling interest in six more:Julcani mine, Recuperada mine, Uchucchacua mine, Orcopampa mine, Antapite mine, and Ishihuinca mine;Compania de Minas Buenaventura also owns an electric power transmission company; an engineering services consulting company; and interests in various mining companies. It sells its metal to smelters, traders, and banks principally in Peru, Europe, North America, Asia, Oceania, and South America.
Clearly, you have never been to Peru. It is on the verge of
becoming socialist. The poor Indians, the majority of the
population, are on the brink of revolt and it has been going on for
the last 20 years. Crime and corruption are rampant, infrastructure
is poor to non-existent. I would not invest in Peru.
