Anyone else have the problem of no matter what you do your port goes down? I can buy low, sell high and/or short high, sell low and whatever amount I make it counts as negative. I can do the opposite (buy high and sell low, etc.), theoretically wiping my losses minus the commission, but it still goes down like it should if the site wasn't so screwy. Kind of screwing me royally..... And it just isn't my account, I can access another account (my boyfriend) and it does the same thing with his. :(

black Monday, be careful :-) I see black cat too! I stopped trading! Seriously I don't worry about those kinds of things. will be ok, matter of time. Just make sure you do make profit in your actual trading. On another note, I just think, it might be fun to hold a contest for who will lose money most. Stocks go up or down, no prejudice, it should be as hard to make your port fall.

UP/DOWN: What's going on with my contest portfolio? ...I have stocks, Ihad already sold! I was up 2% yesterday and before the market opens, i'am down 9.25% with stocks which I bought and sold last week! Also, stocks such as [SPPI] which I owned9and never sold0yesterday are missing from my portfolio.

They did some corrections on some dividend errors they had doubled and tripled. So they removed them from the accounts.

I think the upper limit you can make in one day is a bit under 100% over day's start. Anything else is very improbable and that number requires a good day

There seems to be a glitch in the system on 5/20. That same day a lot of port performance charts have a huge upward spike that reset the next day and a lot others have a downward spike that was also reset. No way I lost 170+% 0n 5/20 and gained 220+% on 5/21.

unless you are playing a site that allows Canadian stocks! UFX.to (Domtar (Canada) Paper Inc) went up from 1.67 to 19.84 on June 11, a full 1088%. That would give port 218%. The most outrageous rise I have ever seen in a day.

read all my public entries, you will either know how I do it, or I won't tell. In summary, I say this: Make an effort to understand what environment you are in, and to understand yourself. Then design a way that maximizes your potential. If you find a way that nearly guarantees a profit with very little risk, then you are nearly guaranteed a prize, small or big, depending on your effort. So far, I can see that at least five dedicated individuals including me have found a way (one disappears). There are a few more there but they are not dedicated enough. It really doesn't take too much of a talent. I welcome more to join the fierce battle. I enjoy the battle more than cocaine. I enjoy fighting with real challengers - friendly fight.

possible but extremely extremely unlikely...think about it. 1million portfolio turning to 4million portfolio in 3 days. When you can only buy 20% of portfolio on a stock...that would mean every stock would litterally have to gain 300%...so no doffuss...based on the highest return stocks last 3 days..that ain't possible.

I'm pretty sure the website is tamper-proof. Anyway, it can be tracked very simply. All transactions are stored on the website (whether you choose to not show them on your profile or not) and if you have more shares than you bought or your portfolio value doesn't match your trading, then you're in trouble.

This practice is what I abhor, as it creates an unfair competition. I could have created a new account last month and won over him. I honestly waited for my turn for the allowed reset. But he could simply cut in. He is violating the Terms and Conditions just like Dan(Frankie). I hate this.

I did not reset my portfolio or even think about it until you mentioned it. Then I realized why you did and it was too late to do it myself for the monthly contest. Since I am new to the site, I do not know all the tricks yet like you do but I will. For now, I created another account for this month's contest. No crying, unless I'm breaking the rules.

I do believe you are innocent, as you are not like Dan Cook to sneak around. But the rule is you must wait for 3 months to reset. So, if you think you deserve May prize, on which I gladly congrat you, then you might as well give up this new account, and resume your old one. You could reset after July 22. Shake hands.

Every rule has its purpose. I guess the 3-mongth rule is to give non-winners a chance. A top performer is prevented from winning every single time. Month-wise it seems unfair because it's biased against the winner, but overall it looks fair. Similarly, wealthy people pay a little more tax so poor ones can get welfare to survive, or live reasonably. But, if you could win 3 consecutive times within this and the partial fill rules, you are truly creme de la creme. Pete is already great by winning twice, although I believe that's partly because there were no real challengers.

Last I heard, in real trading, GM holders can do OTC trades as ticker GMGMQ and online trading was to resume later today or tomorrow or something. I suppose UpDown trading will resume when that does.

Come on updown really. 408% increase even 200%. Is anyone else as skeptical as I am. And If someone is up say 407.98% today should'nt there monthly gain be the exact same. Disclaimer should read information contained on this site may or may not be accurate. And most likely will be so erroneous we will have a big laugh that people still play on this site. I want to work for UPDOWN so I only have to do my job correctly oh about 10% of the time. Sorry UPDOWN am I shooting too high?

420smoker, Lets get this right because I really want to understand it. If a contest starts on June 1, 2009 and it is a monthly contest. And on June 1, 2009 I gain say 10% just to keep the numbers simple. What do you suppose the contest performance is at the end of the day on June 1, 2009? My guess was 10% but apparently the fancy lingo of average and ratio's has thrown me for a loop.

Remember, many of these recommendations come from the same Wall Street shops that couldn't properly analyze their own businesses. And while that doesn't mean they don't employ very capable analysts, or that no stocks are undervalued today (many are), it does raise a third problem with price targets: You have no way of assessing the analyst's track record. If all you have to go on is that someone at UBS (UBS, news, msgs) likes Hewlett-Packard (HPQ, news, msgs), how on earth are you supposed to estimate the quality of the analysis, much less decide whether you agree with the opinion?
