The S&P 500 is now down about 5% since October 19th, and the index is trading below its 50-day moving average. Below we highlight the stocks in the S&P 500 that are trading the furthest above and below their 50-day moving averages. For those expecting a bounce from oversold levels, the names that have moved well below their 50-days might be good plays. Stocks that remain above their 50-days have held up well in the face of a struggling market, so they have the best relative strength in the index.
As shown, MBI is the furthest below its 50-day at -37%. MBI is followed by MI, PCS, EK, WFR, AKS, and S. Amazon.com (AMZN) is the furthest above its 50-day at 28%. AMZN is trailed by EL, LXK, AKAM, and HRS.
