Short Term TRADERS

Emphasis is on TRADERS. This is a group dedicated to traders who not only buy, they also sell. In other words, they are traders, not necessarily long term buy and holders - but all are welcome! Short term trades generally last less than a month if swing trading and might only last hours or days - in other words, as long as the move exists. Short selling is as welcome as going long. Back after Fire and With an Issue

I got burned out in a fire last year and haven't been active here until just yesterday. My account looks like hell, but that's the way it is so I'll just have to fix it.

I have an issue with the group: Right as the big rally beginning in jan began I bought financial positions for the group which another administrator closed by the end of the day...

Right before they tripled...

Damnit I was so mad it's taken me a year to even come back here and state how....

Never mind. The short term traders account loks like hell too and I'm going to do my best to help bring it back. I will post discussion on my trades here and would like to make a request that my trades not be fiddled about with bu other administrators.

I am a short term trader but not a day trader. I expect to hold my positions for an undtermined time (as long as it's going our way [ Reversal and Momentum]). Please don't f with my allocations, I'll close anything that looks like it's going to do any material damage.

Thanks! Dave TheTiger

Stem Cell Stocks Leap Friday a.hrs - Ouch!

We got caught short 50k shrs of STEM, up only .90 friday after hrs! that's -45k for STT, but I'm confident I can make that back going long again - I only went short b/c the bubble burst, I had been long.

[Just posted this at http://stemcellstock.blogspot.com - I track these daily and you can make a fortune when they run]

These were the biggest movers on Friday after hours among the stem cell stocks that I follow, which includes some large caps like AMGN (those never move much).

Symbol, Gain in % (Price in parens)
ASTM +82% (.60)
ARIA +17.5% (1.41)
ATHX +38% (.80)
CYTX +43% (3.30)
GERN +40% (5.41)
CUR +69% (1.45)
OPXA +47% (.44)
OSIR +5.5% (19.00)
STEM +67% (2.30)

Obviously, the cheaper the stock the more movement you can get in an illiquid market like you get after hours. Also some funds can't short stocks under $5, so these will have less institutional shorting.

Forbes has now picked up the story that "rumors of an executive order to life the federal ban on stem cell research funding", but we've heard these rumors on about 2/3 of the weekends since the inauguration.

The pre-market Monday 3-07 will be interesting!

Times are rough

Hey traders, it seems that even as good economic news is released equities still plunge. I think that its time to add more shorts than long, maybe an 80/20, 70/30 concentration or so. I've gotten stopped out of the majority of my long position. Even considering sector rotation and the market being in a volatile trading range I would say its al ot safer to sell short more than go long. What do you thimk?
